Cousin's harassment led to girl's suicide

More than a month after a 20-year-old girl committed suicide by consuming poison, police on Thursday concluded that she had taken the extreme step following harassment by her cousin who was in a one-sided love with her and wanted to marry her.

Deceased Faiza had consumed poison, earlier on May 4 in Mullah Colony and had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on May 10, just two days before her marriage.

Faiza's father had alleged that accused Shahwar had made his daughter consume poison and later threw her from the top floor of the house.

However, based on the post mortem report of the girl, police concluded that she died of poisoning. Police said as the accused was allegedly involved in unlawful activities, the girl's family turned down his marriage proposal and fixed her marriage elsewhere. But then, he started harassing the girl.

A case in this regard has been registered in Nishatpura police station. The accused is yet to be arrested, police added.
