A 15-year-old girl who studies in a reputable English-medium school in Howrah was allegedly molested by a gang of five on Kali Temple Road at Howrah's Baltikuri area on Friday.
According to the complaint, the Class X student was going to meet her next-door neighbour around 11am when the five goons, faces hidden behind helmet visors, arrived on bikes. They allegedly grabbed her hands and tried to drag her towards their bike but she managed to free herself and shouted for help. Seeing the locals run towards them, the goons fled.
The girl ran home with scratches on her hands. The ordeal was too much for her and she fell unconscious. She was taken to Howrah district hospital.
The girl's uncle said she was being harassed by some miscreants for some time. A few days ago, she was on her way to coaching class when some armed miscreants had harassed her. "She was so terrified that she had to be taken to hospital for medical consultation," he said.
Dasnagar police have started a case of molestation and attempt to kidnap. But none of the accused has been traced.
In another incident, an 11-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 32-year-old factory worker at Howrah's Domjur on Thursday. The accused has gone into hiding.
The suspect is a neighbour of the girl in a Domjur locality. He allegedly entered the girl's house when her parents, who work as masons, were away. The girl did not object as she called her him uncle. The youth allegedly raped her and threatened her against telling anyone about it. However, the girl broke down on seeing her mother in the evening.
The girl's mother immediately went to the youth's house and confronted him. He denied the allegation, but she started hitting him with her sandals. His wife then told her to leave, which she did for the time being. But the couple fled at once. On Friday afternoon, a complaint was lodged and the girl was taken to hospital for medical test. Police are conducting raids.
In a third incident, a 22-year-old woman from Howrah was allegedly abducted and raped by her husband's friend at Dum Dum. A complaint was lodged with Batra police in Howrah.
According to the complaint, the woman had come to Chatterpara 10 days ago on some work. One evening, her husband's friend allegedly dragged her into a taxi and took her to a relative's house in Dum Dum, where he allegedly raped her. He allegedly snatched her mobile phone and locked her up. Her husband filed a missing person's complaint at Liluah.
On Thursday, the accused brought her to Dakshineswar and threatened her against trying to escape. They reportedly boarded a bus but she says she bit his hand and escaped.
After she reached home, her husband lodged a police complaint on Friday. She was sent for medical tests. Howrah DC (HQ) Nishad Parvez said they are looking for the accused.
